As Mildred goes to her work place there her colleague Denise (Played by Amanda Warren) supports her decision. The billboards receive a lot of attention throughout town and people believe it to be a personal attack against Chief Willoughby. Robbie gets upsets by this act but doesn’t say anything about it. The next morning Mildred and her son Robbie (Played by Lucas Hedges) pass by the billboard. Dixon passes the second billboard that says "And still no arrests?" He goes to read the last billboard, which says "Raped while dying".ĭixon calls Chief Bill Willoughby (Played by Woody Harrelson) as he's having dinner with his wife Anne (Played by Abbie Cornish) and daughters Polly and Jane to inform him about the billboards. Later at night, Officer Jason Dixon (Played Sam Rockwell), who has a reputation of harassing African-American citizens, is driving down Drinkwater Road and listening to music, when he sees two young men putting up the first billboard that reads "How come, Chief Willoughby?". Red agrees to put up the advertisement by Sunday. Red figures out Mildred is the mother of Angela Hayes (Played by Kathryn Newton), who was raped and murdered seven months earlier. Mildred gives five thousand rent for the first month and says no one should put advertisement in place of hers. As she passes by three vacant billboards, she stops and bites her nails, comes up with a plan and then goes to an advertising agency to speak to Red Welby (Played by Caleb Landry Jones) about putting up three billboards for a year and want to know the rent for the billboards.
